Altavista……Robert Edward "Bob" East, age 85 of Altavista went to be with the Lord on Sunday, September 16, 2018 at Centra Lynchburg General Hospital.

Born August 23, 1933 in Pittsylvania County, he was a son of the late George East and Emma Weeks East.  He was predeceased by his wife, Patsy Kegley East; a brother, Alvin East; a granddaughter, Jenny Lynn East; and a great-grandson, Matthew Austin East.  Mr. East was a member of New Prospect Baptist Church and retired from Peoples Mutual Telephone Company.  He was an Army veteran of the Korean War having served in the 187 ^th Airborne Division.  He enjoyed hunting, fishing, riding to the lake; and was a big New York Yankees, Virginia Tech and UVA fan.

He is survived by four sons, Eddie East and wife, Janet of Rustburg, Mike East and wife, Sharon of Hurt, Wayne East and friend, Sharon Crouch of Evington and Brian East and wife, Tanya of Lynch Station; one sister, Louise Phillips of Evington; eight grandchildren, Jennifer Farris, Jonathan East, Apryl E. Hunley, Jay East, Justin East, Ryan East, Brianna East and Braelyn East; twelve great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be conducted 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, September 19, 2018 at New Prospect Baptist Church by Rev. Brady Willis.  Burial with Military Honors by American Legion Altavista Post 36 and Gretna Post 232 will follow in the church cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, September 18, 2018 at Colbert-Moran Funeral Home and other times will be at the residence.
