Hurt………Walter "Robert" Compton, age 92 of Hurt passed away Wednesday, June 3, 2026 at his residence.  June 3rd was not only his predeceased wife's birthday, but it would have been their 65th wedding anniversary.

Born September 16, 1933 in Pittsylvania County, he was a son of the late Walter Thomas Compton and Idella King Compton.  He was predeceased by his wife, Ida Doss Compton; a son, Robert Michael Compton; and two sisters, Ruby Layne and Lula Walker.

At an early age Robert was an entrepreneur.  He worked at the family business, Compton's Store and turned the business into a gas station and garage.  He started Hurt Motor Sales in 1963 and the business is still in operation today.  He was also owner of Compton's Mobile Home Park.

He was loved by everyone in the community and was always helping anyone in need.  He was known for pranking people on a daily basis.  When he wasn't pranking people, you could find him on his tractor bush hogging and taking care of the cows.

He is survived by one son, Stacy Compton and wife, Vickie of Hurt; two granddaughters, Olivia Compton and Isabella Compton; and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Sunday, June 7, 2026 at Colbert-Moran Funeral Home.
