Gretna……...Robert "Bob" Dillard Carter, Jr., age 78 of Gretna died Sunday, August 18, 2024 at his residence.

Born February 16, 1946 in Norfolk, he was a son of the late Robert Dillard Carter, Sr. and Katherine Carter.  Mr. Carter was a member of Chestnut Level Baptist Church.  He graduated from Virginia Tech in 1968 and was a teacher for  the Pittsylvania County School System for 43 years.  He loved his dog, "Lady."

He is survived by his wife, Jean Riddle Carter of the residence; one daughter, Ashley Guthrie of Gretna; one son, Rob Carter III and wife, Teresa of Apple Valley, CA; one sister, Betty Jean Lovelace and husband, Wayne of Danville; and one grandchild, Ethan Carter and wife, Alex of San Francisco, CA.

Funeral services will be conducted 11:00 a.m. Friday, August 23, 2024 at Colbert-Moran Chapel by Rev. R.G. Rowland and Joan Yeatts.  Burial will follow in Highland Burial Park.

The family will receive friends at the residence.
