Obituary

Gretna…..Richard Burton Schwitzerlett, age 76 of Gretna passed away at his home on Saturday, November 14, 2015 of Alzheimer's related complications, surrounded by his family.
Born May 9, 1939 in Pittsylvania County he was a son of the late Samuel Burton Schwitzerlett and Myrtle Ester Irby Schwitzerlett. He was predeceased by four sisters, Lena Rowland, Ester Pickeral, Minnie Frazier, and Mary Alice Haley; and a brother, Thomas Schwitzerlett. He was a member and former Elder and Deacon at Altavista Church of Christ; he faithfully served his Lord and Savior. Richard served four years in the United States Air Force and was a self-employed brick mason well known in the Pittsylvania and Halifax counties.
He is survived by his wife, Christine Custer Schwitzerlett of the residence; two sons, Mark "Sam" Schwitzerlett of Glen Allen and Richard R. Schwitzerlett of Columbus, OH; two sisters, Dorothy Jacobs and her husband, Haywood of Gretna and Dolly Pettry and her husband, Joey of Rustburg; two brothers, Oscar Schwitzerlett and his wife, Eliza of Beaver, WV, and Walter Schwitzerlett and his wife, Nancy of Rosedale; special nieces, Cindy Edwards and her husband, Jimmy, Deborah Turner and her husband, Richard and Phyllis Kendrick and her husband, Kelly and their children and grandchildren; special nephews, Gary Pickeral and his wife, Sandra and Harry Pickeral and his wife, Vicky; brothers-in-law, Charlie Pickeral and Bill Frazier as well as his other nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted 3:00 p.m. Tuesday, November 17, 2015 at the Colbert-Moran Chapel by Lee Ashley, Minister, Lory Brafford, Minister and Larry Evans, Minister. Burial with Military Honors by American Legion Post 36 and Gretna Post 232 will follow in Carl O. Moran Memorial Garden.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Monday, November 16, 2015 at Colbert-Moran Funeral Home and other times will be at the residence.
