Reuben William Mayhew

Long Island.......Reuben William Mayhew, age 69 of 269 Davis Farm Road, Long Island died Friday, June 25, 2010 at his residence.
Born May 23, 1941 in Pittsylvania County he was a son of the late Morris Monroe Mayhew and Nellie Eanes Mayhew. He was predeceased by three brothers, Anderson, Mayhew, Gene Mayhew, and Alfred Mayhew; and two sisters, Janie Mayhew, and Ida Worsham. Mr. Mayhew was an Army Veteran, and a retired x-ray technician at B & W. He was a member of The First Baptist Church of Riceville where he served as Deacon, Sunday school teacher, and former treasurer. He enjoyed his garden, working on the farm, and working in the shop with his hands.
He is survived by his wife, Peggy Hughes Mayhew of the residence, three daughters, Debbie Thompson and her husband, Bill of Gretna, Sheila Wyatt and her husband, Jay of Gretna, and Shirley Hutcherson and her husband, David of Gretna; two brothers, Clyde Mayhew and his wife Jane of Gretna, and Carlton Mayhew and his wife, Debby of Chatham; two sisters, Lucy Davis of Long Island, and Evelyn Worsham of Long Island; seven grandchildren, three great-grandchildren; and a dear sweet mother-in-law, sister-in-law, brother-in-law, nieces, and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted 2:00 P.M. Sunday, June 27, 2010 at Colbert-Moran Chapel by Rev. Neville Shelton. Burial with Military Honors by The Virginia National Guard Honor Guard will follow in Carl O. Moran Memorial Garden.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Saturday at Colbert-Moran Funeral Home, and other times will be at the residence.
The family suggests memorials be made to The American Cancer Society.
