Gretna……….Rebecca Layne Cardwell, age 93 of Gretna died Sunday, October 14, 2012 at Lynchburg General Hospital.
Born September 7, 1919 in Pittsylvania County, she was a daughter of the late, John Henry Layne and Ella Wyatt Layne. She was predeceased by her husband, Claude Cecil Cardwell and a brother, Wyatt Layne. Mrs. Cardwell was a member of Cody, Church of God of Prophecy and was a homemaker. She enjoyed cooking and sewing.
She is survived by two sons, Cecil F. Cardwell of Gretna, and John Wayne Cardwell of Gretna; two grandchildren, Pam Johnson and husband, Steve of Charlottesville, and Kelly Nuckols and husband, Chuck of Cary, NC; four great-grandchildren, Tyler Johnson, Allison Nuckols, Abby Nuckols, and Hunter Johnson.
Funeral Services will be conducted 11:00 A.M. Wednesday, October 17, 2012 at the Cody, Church of God of Prophecy by Pastor Darren Massey. Burial will follow in the St. Andrews United Methodist Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the residence of her son, Cecil F. Cardwell, 4951 Midway Road, Gretna.
