Gretna……….Ray Junior Hammock, age 74 of 4804 Farmers Road, Gretna died Thursday, March 10, 2011 at Virginia Baptist Hospital in Lynchburg.
Born December 27, 1936 in Pittsylvania County, he was a son of the late John Thomas Hammock and Myrtle Barbour Hammock. He was predeceased by two brothers, Raleigh Hammock, and Walter Hammock; and a sister, Shirley Briggs. Mr. Hammock was a member of Cody Church of God of Prophecy. He was a fork lift mechanic with Columbia Forest Products, and enjoyed working on cars.
He is survived by his wife, Josephine Jones Hammock of the residence; three sons, Brice Hammock of Gretna, Michael Hammock and his wife, Donna of Gretna, and Ryan Hammock and his wife, Sharon of Gretna; two daughters, Deborah Hamlett and her husband, Howard of Phenix, and Wanda Coleman and her husband John of Forest; three brothers, Grady Hammock and his wife Pat of Long Island, Roger Lee Hammock and his wife, Jewell of Greensboro, NC, and James Hammock of Gretna; four sisters, Catherine Shelton and her husband Clyde of Altavista, Mary Moore and husband, Bill of Gretna, Carlene Collins of Danville, and Brenda Kay Waters and her husband, Mitchell of Pittsville; a mother-in-law, Flossie (Mrs. Jones) Denton of Gretna; three sisters-in-law, Carolyn J. Moss, Carolyn H. O'Connell, and Brenda Robertson; 9 grandchildren, 3 step-grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted 2:00 P.M. Saturday, March 12, 2011 at Colbert-Moran Chapel by Rev. Edward Pope and Rev. Lacy King. Burial will follow in the Jones Family Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 P.M. Friday, March 11, 2011 at Colbert-Moran Funeral Home and other times will be at the residence.
The family would like to thank Centra Hospice, and all the nurses, and doctors who have shared love, patience, and care.
The family suggests memorials be made to the Gretna Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 14, Gretna, VA 24557.
