Altavista.…..Preston Harwood Andrews, age 89 of Altavista died Saturday, July 21, 2018 at Lynchburg General Hospital.
Born November 30, 1928 in Petersburg, he was the son of the late W. Grey Andrews and Bessie C. Kidd Andrews. He was predeceased by his first wife, Jane P. Andrews; one son, Stephen G. Andrews; one daughter, Susan A. Dillon; one brother, Edwin Andrews; two sisters, Charlotte A. Foley and Louise A. Adkins. Mr. Andrews was an Army Veteran, where he was a 1 st Lieutenant in the U.S Army A.F.A. He was a former planning manager for BGF Industries. Preston was a graduate of VPI Class of 1950 and a member of the Corp of Cadets. He served as President of the Petersburg-Hopewell VA Chamber of Commerce and as President of the Altavista YMCA Board of Directors. He was a member and served as church treasurer for 18 years at Altavista Presbyterian Church and was treasurer of Avoca for 7 years.
He is survived by his wife, Ann Weeks Burgess Andrews of the residence; one step-son, Tracy L. Burgess of Altavista; one step-daughter, Rhonda B. Cundiff and husband, Mike of Altavista; one brother, Wesley G. Andrews and wife, Ethel of Colonial Heights; three grandchildren, Melissa Fisher, Jared Bond and Derek Bond; three step-grandchildren, Kelsie Kegley and husband, Jacob, Mandy Puryear and husband, JP and Victoria Burgess; great-grandchildren, Leighton Bond, Eli Bond, Emma Bond and Stephen Mabry; and five step-great-grandchildren, Kaycie Puryear, Kaylee Puryear, Kylie Kegley, Austin Kegley and Allison Kegley.
Funeral services will be conducted 11:00 a.m. Tuesday July 24, 2018 at the Altavista Presbyterian Church by the Rev. Ed Soto, Jr. and Rev. Brady Willis. Burial with military honors by American Legion Altavista Post 36 and Gretna Post 232 will follow in Green Hill Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Monday, July 23, 2018 at Colbert-Moran Funeral Home and other times will be at the residence.
The family suggests memorial contributions be made to Altavista Presbyterian Church, P.O. Box 126, Altavista, VA 24517.
