Altavista………Phyllis Matherly Phillips-Jefferson, age 70 of Altavista died Thursday, April 23, 2020 at Centra Lynchburg General Hospital.

Born November 19, 1949 in Pittsylvania County, she was a daughter of the late Clarence Burton Matherly and Gladys Irby Matherly.  She was predeceased by one sister, Patsy Matherly Emerson; and one great-niece, Kayla Faith Banton.  Mrs. Phillips-Jefferson retired from Abbot Laboratories.  She attended Altavista Church of God of Prophecy, and was a lifetime member of Altavista Women of the Moose 1966.  She enjoyed church activities.

She is survived by her husband, Freddie C. Jefferson, Sr. of the residence; one daughter, Donna Phillips Rader of Lynch Station; one step-son, Freddie Jefferson, Jr. and wife, Linda of Hurt; one sister, Betty Bentley and husband, Terry of Hickory, NC; one grandson, Brock Tyler Rader; three step-grandchildren, Alex Boyer, Peyton Jefferson, and Daniel Jefferson; a special cousin, Shirley Owen of Gretna; and numerous cousins and friends.

Memorial services will be held at a later date.
