Phyllis Layne Franks

Durham, NC.........Phyllis Layne Franks, age 80 of Durham, NC, formerly of Gretna, VA died Tuesday, January 4, 2011 in Duke University Hospital in Durham, NC.
Born June 14, 1930 in Lynchburg, VA she was a daughter of the late, John Andrew Layne and Verna Belle Coleman Layne. Mrs. Franks was a member of Anderson Memorial United Methodist Church in Gretna, VA and was a retired teacher with the Pittsylvania County, VA School System. Following her retirement she taught computer classes for Danville Community College. She enjoyed quilting.
She is survived by her husband, Charles Jackson Franks of the residence; four sons, John Franks and wife, Jan of Summersville, SC, Barry Franks & wife, Melissa of Vienna, VA, Tom Franks of Middletown, RI and Dan Franks and wife, Brenda of Wake Forest, NC; two sisters, Edith Bobbitt of New Jersey and Doris Carwile of Lynchburg, VA; eight grandchildren, Tony Franks, April Franks Christopher and husband, Josh, Amanda Runyon, Brian Kinsella, Rory Franks, Rachel Franks, Charlie Franks and Hannah Franks; and one great-grandchild, Tillman Christopher.
Graveside services will be conducted 11:00 a.m. Friday, January 7, 2011 at Fort Hill Memorial Park in Lynchburg, VA by Rev. John Snyder.
The family will receive friends 7 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday at Colbert-Moran Funeral Home.
