Gretna……….Peggy Cook Ashworth, age 85 of Gretna, passed away Tuesday, January 30, 2024 at Gretna Health and Rehab Center.

Born July 26, 1938 in Pittsylvania County, she was a daughter of the late Guy Edgar Cook and Earla Belle Tuck Cook.  She was predeceased by her husband, Rev. Gene R. Ashworth, her beloved baby boy, Brian Ashworth; one brother, Raymond Cook; and two sisters, Eunice Irby, and Lucille Hudson.  Mrs. Ashworth was a devoted preacher's wife of 35 years, and a lifelong church member until her health declined.  She enjoyed attending church, playing the piano, singing hymns, family gatherings, and feeding her family.

She is survived by one son, Don Ashworth and wife, Annette of Gretna; one brother, Roger Cook and wife, June of Wirtz; one sister, Jean Neville of Gretna; two grandchildren, Jonathan Ashworth, and Brionna Ashworth; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be conducted 11:00 a.m. Saturday, February 3, 2024 at Sandy Level Baptist Church by Rev. R.G. Rowland and Pastor Barry Cundiff.  Burial will follow in Liberty Memorial Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:00 p.m. Friday, February 2, 2024 at Colbert-Moran Funeral Home and other times will be at the residence.
