Hurt……….Paul David Short, age 86 of Hurt passed away Friday, January 28, 2022 at Centra Lynchburg General Hospital.

He was born January 26, 1936 in Danville, VA to the late Parker "Putt" Short and Mary "Josie" Motley Short. He was predeceased by two sisters-in-law, Shirley Shelton and Melba Davis; and one brother-in-law, Claude Davis. He served in the U.S. Army from 1959 to 1961. Paul was a brick mason and carpenter, building many houses between 1978 and 2010. In addition to building houses, he enjoyed raising cattle on his family farm.  He was a member of Midway Baptist Church.  Aside from being "Papa" to his grandchildren he was most proud of a new calf, UVA basketball, and his ability to build a good house, especially a young couple's first home.

He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Carolyn Dalton Short of the residence; three children, Denise S. Godfrey (Terry) of Gretna, David Short (Delane) of Hurt  and Philip Short (Heather) of Hurt; eight grandchildren,  Stacey Simpson (Derick), Cory Godfrey, Brooke Short, Chase Short, Seth Short (Savanna), Shane Short, Brianna Short, and Spencer Short; four great-grandchildren, Collin Simpson, Atlee Simpson, Jasper Short and Archie Short; one sister, Elma Shelton of Loris, SC; one aunt, Dorene Haynes of Graham, NC; one brother-in-law, Ned Shelton of Gretna; and a life-long special friend, William Davis.

Funeral services will be conducted 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, February 1, 2022 at Colbert-Moran Chapel by Rev. Lynn Marstin.  Burial will follow at the Short Family Cemetery.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service from 1 to 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, February 1, 2022 at Colbert-Moran Funeral Home.
