Chatham…….Patty Sue Atkins Coates, age 85 of Chatham died Monday, October 31, 2016 at her daughter's residence.
Born July 16, 1931 in Guilford County, NC, she was a daughter of the late Durward Lloyd Atkins and Annie Mae Stanley Atkins. She was predeceased by five brothers, Stanley Atkins, Gene Atkins, Tommy Atkins, Paul Atkins, and David Atkins. Mrs. Coates was the former manager of Chatham Cleaners and was a member at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, Danville Ward, Danville, VA. She was an avid reader; and enjoyed crossword puzzles and crocheting. Mrs. Coates was also an excellent seamstress and a very artistic painter.
She is survived by her husband of 64 years, George Larry Coates of the residence; three sons, Steven A. Coates and wife, Vicki of Rock Hill, SC, Stuart Coates and wife, Jewel of Danville, and Scott Coates of Chatham; one daughter, Amanda Elliott and husband, Raymond of Gladys; two brothers, Herbert Atkins and D.L. Atkins; two sisters, Marie Parrish and husband, Larry and Ann Allen and husband, Hunt; 7 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren.
Memorial services will be conducted 11:00 a.m. Saturday, November 5, 2016 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, Gretna Branch by President Raymond Elliott.
The family suggests memorials be made to the American Cancer Society.
