Gretna…..Otha Lewis Ayers, age 72 of Gretna died Thursday, June 23, 2011 at Autumn Care Nursing & Rehab in Altavista.
Born February 14, 1939 in Bedford County he was a son of the late Doc (Buck) Ayers and Nora Craighead Ayers. He was also predeceased by a son, Michael Ayers; one brother, Bill Ayers and a grandson, Jonathan Ayers. He was a logger, enjoyed hunting, making moonshine, and fishing.
He is survived by his wife, Florence Fielder Ayers of Gretna; two sons, Terry Fielder of Gretna, and Jerry Ayers of Gretna; seven daughters, Amanda Wheeler of Rustburg, Wendy Fielder of Altavista, Jodie Wheeler of Gretna, Kathy Ayers of Hurt, Wanda Hudson of Altavista, Rhonda Shelton of Gretna, and Christee Manning of Rocky Mount; three brothers, Aubrey (Buddy ) Ayers of Pittsville, Boyd Ray Ayers of Moneta and Raymond Ayers of Bedford; four sisters, Ruth Tuck of Bedford, Janet Ferguson of Bedford, Betty Wright of Bedford, and Rachel Ayers of Bedford; 22 grandchildren; and 6 great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 P.M. Saturday, June 25, 2011 at Colbert-Moran Funeral Home.
Graveside services will be conducted 2:00 p.m. Sunday, June 26, 2011 at Gretna Burial Park by the Rev. Dr. Lynn Marstin.
