Pittsville….......Onyx Lee Shields, age 92 of Pittsville died Friday, August 14, 2015.
Born June 2, 1923 in Pittsylvania County he was a son of the late Shack S. Shields and Ora Bell Haley Shields. He was predeceased by his wife, Nannie Shelton Shields and a sister Norine S. Barbour. Mr. Shields was a member of Pittsville Pentecostal Holiness Church for seventy-five years. He served the church in many capacities including as Deacon, Trustee and Sunday School Teacher. He was the owner of O.L. Shields Construction and was a US Mail Rural Route Delivery person for thirty-nine years. Mr. Shields was devoted to his church and family.
He is survived by two sons, Billy Shields and his wife, Donna of Gretna and Bobby Shields and his wife, Leigh Ann of Keeling; one daughter, Donna Adkins of Pittsville; two brothers, George Shields of Pittsville and Lewis Shields of Pittsville; four grandchildren, Kelly S. Bellis and her husband, Dave, Matthew Shields, Lauren S. Wright and her husband, Jonathan and Hannah Shields; and one great-grandchild, Norah Bellis.
Funeral services will be conducted 11:00 a.m. Monday, August 17, 2015 at Pittsville Pentecostal Holiness Church by Rev. Mike Allen. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8:00 p.m. Sunday, August 16, 2015 at Colbert-Moran Funeral Home and other times will be at the residence.
