Ocie Crawford Betterton, Jr., age 88 of Chatham passed away Saturday, March 1, 2025 in Bedford Hospital with his family by his side.

Born February 8, 1937 in Chatham, he was a son of the late Ocie C. Betterton, Sr. and Nellie Payne Betterton.  He was predeceased by his wife, Mildred Pierce Betterton; his son, Frankie Lynn Betterton; grandson, Frankie Lynn Betterton II and granddaughter, Jesse Rachelle Burnete Crews.

Mr. Betterton was a member of Cornerstone Church of Christ.  He was a Korean war veteran, served in the Virginia Defense Force and also served as a Gideon.  He enjoyed camping, woodworking, golf and gardening.

Mr. Betterton was a beloved husband, dad, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle, friend and was always available if you needed any sound advice!

He is survived by two daughters, Dorinda B. Yeatts (Stacy) of Gretna and Kathy B. Burnette of Chatham;  daughter-in-law, Mary B. Rowland (Ward) of Brosville; six grandchildren, Melissa Pitt, Ryan Gibson (Sydney), Donna Jones, Lauren Purgason (Allen), Caleb Burnette (Whitni) and Hannah Burnette; 20 great-grandchildren, Layla, Jack, Braelyn, Zion, Gabriel, Eden, Nyha, Khyla, Bridget, Tripp, Henry, Cambry, Hunter, Braeden, McKenzi, William, Benjamin, Carter, Caden and Melanie and a new great-great- granddaughter,  Ka'Manai.

Graveside services will be conducted 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, March 4, 2025 at Hillcrest Burial Park by Bob Paddock, Minister.  Military Honors by American Legion Altavista Post 36 and Gretna Post 232.

The family will receive friends at the residence.
