Gretna…….Norman Edgar "Buddy" Hedrick, age 89 of Gretna passed away Saturday, September 12, 2026 at Centra Lynchburg General Hospital.

He was born on March 14, 1937, in Gretna, Virginia, to the late Edgar Cabel Hedrick and Myrtle Shelton Hedrick. Throughout his life, Norman was known for his dedication to his family, his strong work ethic, and his service to his country.

Norman grew up in a large family and learned the value of hard work at an early age, including working in the tobacco fields. He was preceded in death by his sisters, Estelle Abbott, Lois Brooks, Dorothy Johnson, and Margaret Hedrick; his brothers, Gordon, Garland, Wayne, and Adrian Hedrick; and a son-in-law, Rickey Betterton.  He is survived by his sister, Jeri Dowdy.

Norman leaves behind his loving wife, Patsy S. Hedrick; their children, Kimberly Betterton, Karla Doss (Leroy), and Todd Hedrick; and his grandchildren, Heather Doss (Chris), Brian Adkins, Kelly Bowen, Ethan Doss, Heath Doss (Abby), and Zach Hedrick.

He is also survived by his great-grandchildren, Logan Pyles, Luken Pyles, Mila Doss, Arthur Adkins, Cole Simmons, Cael Doss, Graham Doss, and Grayson Doss. His family is also awaiting the arrival of his great-granddaughter, Sadie Mae Doss, expected in January 2027. Norman is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends who will cherish his memory.

A proud veteran of the United States Army, Norman served his country with honor. His military service reflected the strength, dedication, and sense of responsibility that characterized the way he lived his life.

Norman will be remembered as a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and veteran. The life he built and the example he set will live on through the generations of his family who follow him.

In accordance with Norman's wishes, a private ceremony will be held to honor his life.

His family will remember him not simply for the years he lived, but for the love he gave, the lessons he taught, and the memories he leaves behind.
