Altavista………Nera Jane Moon Rowland, age 93 of Altavista died Tuesday, July 5, 2016 at her residence.
Born March 21, 1923 in Pittsylvania County she was a daughter of the late James William Moon, Sr. and Virginia Florence Strange Moon. She was predeceased by her husband, Roy Coleman Rowland; four brothers, James Talmage Moon, James William Moon, Jr., Franklin Owen Moon and Victor Henry Moon; and a sister, Ruby Mae Roach. Mrs. Rowland was a member of Central Baptist Church and was a former secretary for Altavista Farm Service. She enjoyed reading her Bible, participating in church activities and spending time with her family.
She is survived by one son, Larry W. Rowland of the residence; and one sister, Gaynell M. Haynes and her husband, Garland of Raleigh, NC.
A celebration of her life will be conducted 3:00 p.m. Saturday, July 16, 2016 at Central Baptist Church by Rev. Nick Jones and Rev. Mark Hopkins.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service from 2 to 3:00 p.m. Saturday, July 16, 2016 at Central Baptist Church.
In lieu of customary remembrances the family requests donations be made to Colbert-Moran Funeral Home, P.O. Box 400 Gretna, VA 24557 in her honor to help with expenses.
