Obituary

Altavista……Nellie Elizabeth Bennett Ramsey Tweedy, age 94 of Altavista died Thursday, May 4, 2017 at Lynchburg General Hospital.
Born October 8, 1922 in Pittsylvania County, she was a daughter of the late Thomas Allen Bennett and Viola Motley Bennett. She was twice married, first to the late Wade Ramsey and then to the late Irvine Tweedy. She was also predeceased by a son, Brian Keith Ramsey; a son-in-law, Steven Dunn; and two sisters, Gladys B. Crosier and Hilda B. Harris. Mrs. Tweedy was a member of the First Baptist Church of Altavista and was a home maker. She graduated from Gretna High School in 1941. She enjoyed traveling with her friends; she also enjoyed pets of all kinds, watching horses on the farm and watching the Kentucky Derby.
She is survived by one son, Allen Ramsey and wife, Patricia of Hurt; one daughter, Phyllis Ramsey Dunn of Greensboro, NC; 8 grandchildren, Kendall S. Ramsey, Jeffrey A. Ramsey, Jessica R. Taylor, Corey W. Ramsey, Coleman I. Ramsey, Kristin D. Cowles, Kelly D. Boxberger and Dustin H. Dunn; and 13 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted 2:00 p.m. Sunday, May 7, 2017 at Colbert-Moran Chapel by the Rev. Mike Lee. Burial will follow in Gretna Burial Park.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service from 1 to 2:00 p.m. Sunday, May 7, 2017 at Colbert-Moran Funeral Home.
