Gretna……….Nellie "Nell" Simpson Bolling, age 97 of Gretna died Wednesday, January 6, 2016 at her residence.
Born September 4, 1918 in Pittsylvania County she was a daughter of the late James Robert Simpson and Nellie Maude Bryant Simpson. She was predeceased by her husband, James "Jimmy" Henry Bolling, Sr.; two brothers, Perry Simpson and Purdum Simpson; and three sisters, Nettie Franklin, Bessie Franklin and Ruby Yeatts. Mrs. Bolling was a member of Gretna Christian Church and was a charter member of the Gretna chapter No. 118 Order of the Eastern Star. She was a former secretary for the Lane Company. Mrs. Bolling enjoyed proofing the books on local history; and spending time with her friends and her grand dog "Sue."
She is survived by one son, James Henry Bolling, Jr. and his wife, Alice of Hurt; two grandsons, Richard Anthony Bolling of Oregon and James Henry Bolling III of California; and nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted 11:00 a.m. Friday, January 8, 2016 at Gretna Christian Church by Lee Ashley, Minister and Roy Parker, Minister. Burial will follow in Gretna Burial Park.
