Gretna………Nellie Garrison Saunders, age 93 of Gretna died Friday, April 30, 2021 at her residence.

Born September 30, 1927 in Albemarle County, she was a daughter of the late W.W. Woodbridge and Mary Mayhew Woodbridge.  She was predeceased by her husband, Hammie Lee Saunders, Sr.; one son, Hammie Lee Saunders, Jr.; and two brothers, Carl Garrison and William Garrison.  Mrs. Saunders was a member of Mulberry Baptist Church and she was a home maker.  She was a member of the Rebeccas; and she enjoyed flower gardening, making cakes, crocheting, and sewing.

She is survived by two daughters, Winnie Sue Crews and husband, Bobby of Lynchburg, and Judy Kay Poindexter and husband, Cole of Altavista; six grandchildren, Sherrie Simpson (Bob), Chris Saunders, Bryan Crews (Kerry), Kevin Crews (Shayna), Rob Poindexter (Stacy), and Rachael Rutledge (Jason); six great-grandchildren, Heather Edmunds, Robbie Simpson, John Crews, Payton Poindexter, Ty Poindexter, and Loden Rutledge; and two great-great-grandchildren, Braeden Edmunds, and Bryson Edmunds.

Funeral services will be conducted 2:00 p.m. Sunday, May 2, 2021 at Mulberry Baptist Church by Rev. Randy Foster.  Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
