Gladys…..Nellie Jane Clay Akers, age 72 of Gladys died Sunday, December 16, 2012 at her residence.
Born March 17, 1940 in Pittsylvania County she was a daughter of the late Moten Edward Clay and Mary Ella Oakes Clay. She was also predeceased by a son, Jamie Akers; four brothers, Lee Clay, Burlie Clay, Charlie Clay, and Wayne Clay; and one sister, Lucy Eades. Mrs. Akers was a convenience store cashier and retired from Guggenheimer Nursing Home. She enjoyed reading the Bible, working with plants and flowers, talking on the telephone, and spending time with family and friends.
She is survived by two sons, Jerry Clay of Seagrove, NC, and Jimmy Clay and his wife Sylvia of Rustburg; two daughters, Dorothy Conley of Manassas, and Judy Clay of Gladys; one sister, Delma Talbott of Lynchburg; 16 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted 11:00 A.M. Wednesday, December 19, 2012 at Colbert-Moran Chapel by Pastor Mike Dodson. Burial will follow in Carl O. Moran Memorial Garden.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 P.M. Tuesday, December 18, 2012 at Colbert-Moran Funeral Home and other times will be at the residence of her son, Jimmy Clay, 77 Browns Mill Road, Rustburg.
