Gretna……Myrtle Shelton Rowland, age 99 of Gretna died Thursday, July 7, 2022 at Gretna Health and Rehab Center.

Born November 1, 1922 in Pittsylvania County, she was a daughter of the late Henry Foster Shelton and Sally Parker Shelton.  She was predeceased by her husband, Thomas "Tom" William Rowland; five brothers, Ramsey Shelton, Bill Shelton, Paul Shelton, Curtis Shelton, and Jim Shelton; one sister, Ethel Campbell; and her step-mother, Mary Wilson Shelton.  Mrs. Rowland was a home maker.  She was a member of Piney Grove Baptist Church where she was a member of WMU and a Senior Adult Sunday School Teacher.  She loved reading her Bible, helping people, and spending time with her family.

She is survived by one daughter, Cecile Barbour of Gretna; two sisters, Jeanie Spray of Altavista, and Marie Bibee of Hurt; two grandchildren, Chris Farris and wife, Wendy of Gretna and Ray Brown of Georgia; 8 great- grandchildren and 15 great-great-grandchildren; and special friends, Travis Jefferson and Angie Jefferson.

Funeral services will be conducted 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, July 12, 2022 at Colbert-Moran Chapel by Rev. R.G. Rowland.  Burial will follow in Gretna Burial Park.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service from 10 to 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, July 12, 2022 at Colbert-Moran Funeral Home and other times will be at the residence of her daughter, Cecile Barbour, 989 Piney Grove Road, Gretna.
