Obituary

Mollie Long Wheeler, age 87 formerly of Altavista died Monday, February 10, 2014 at Carriage Hill Retirement Center in Bedford.
Born April 9, 1926 in Stone Mountain she was a daughter of the late Walter T. Long and Mary Davis Long. She was predeceased by her husband, Harry Charles Wheeler, Jr.; a son, Harry C. Wheeler III; and three sisters and a brother. Mrs. Wheeler was a member of Clement Memorial Wesleyan Church, and retired from Harris Teeter. She was a very good seamstress, and was a volunteer at the thrift store in Altavista. Mrs. Wheeler enjoyed being at Smith Mountain Lake, and spending time with her grandchildren.
She is survived by one son, Wayne Wheeler and his wife Lois of Hurt; three grandchildren, Tanya W. Saunders and her husband, Walter of Long Island, Tamara Wheeler of Palmyra, and Neil Wheeler and his wife, Charity of Lehi, Utah; and four great-grandchildren, Haley Saunders, Kenly Saunders, Blair Saunders, and Elsie Wheeler.
Graveside services will be conducted 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, February 12, 2014 at Green Hill Cemetery by Wayne Wheeler.
The family will receive friends at the residence of her son and daughter-in-law, Wayne and Lois Wheeler, 1808 Izaak Walton Road, Hurt.
The family suggests memorial contributions be made to your local Rescue Squad or Fire Department.
