Gretna……….Mildred Gibson Rowland, age 97 of Gretna died Saturday, July 23, 2016 at Chatham Health and Rehab Center.
Born December 10, 1918 in Pittsylvania County she was a daughter of the late Jabe Gibson and Bonnie Haden Gibson. She was predeceased by her husband, Woodrow Wilson Rowland; four brothers, Rither Gibson, James Gibson, Walter Gibson, and Elvin Gibson; and two sisters, Mary Martin and Elsie Blevins. Mrs. Rowland was a member of Payneton United Methodist Church, where she sang in the choir and was a member of the United Methodist Women. She worked as a sales clerk and retired after 30 years of service at Schultz's United in Baltimore, MD, she and her husband then retired back to Virginia in 1980.
She is survived by one brother, Nelson Gibson and wife, Mary Glenn of Lynchburg; three sisters, Reba Midkiff of Gretna, Ruth Chamberlain of Salisbury, MD, and Jo Ann Giles and husband, Steve of Chatham; and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted 11:00 a.m. Monday, July 25, 2016 at Payneton United Methodist Church by Rev. Harold Thornton. Burial will follow in Gretna Burial Park.
The family will receive friends at the residence of her sister, Reba Midkiff, 457 Taylors Mill Road, Gretna.
