Chatham.........Mildred Elizabeth Pierce Betterton, age 85 of Chatham passed away Thursday, March 7, 2024 at her home with her family by her side.

Born July 27, 1938 in Chatham, she was a daughter of the late Frank Edgar Pierce and Mary Elizabeth Pruitt Pierce.

She was predeceased by her son, Frankie Lynn Betterton; grandson, Frankie Lynn Betterton II; granddaughter, Jesse Rachelle Burnette Crews; and two sisters, Janet Adkins and Joanne Dalton.  She was a member of Cornerstone Church of Christ.  She loved working with Gideons, writing her posts in the Star Tribune (years ago) and receiving her weekly paper to make sure she kept up with the local news and people.  Her passion was helping others and was always willing to volunteer when needed.  She loved to garden and most of all she loved cooking.

Mrs. Betterton was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt and friend to many.  Her kindness, gift of service and compassion touched the hearts of all who had the pleasure of knowing her.  She will be deeply missed by all!

She is survived by her husband of 67 years, Ocie C. Betterton, Jr. of the residence; two daughters, Dorinda B. Yeatts (Stacy) of Gretna, and Kathy B. Burnette of Chatham; daughter-in-law, Mary B. Rowland (Ward) of Brosville, six grandchildren, Melissa Pitt, Ryan Gibson (Sydney), Donna Jones (Robert), Lauren Purgason (Allen), Caleb Burnette (Whitni) and Hannah Burnette (Ryan); 21 great-grandchildren, Layla, Jack, Braelyn, Zion, Gabriel, Eden, Nyha, Khyla, Layton, Bridget, Tripp, Henry, Cambry, Hunter, Braeden, McKenzi, William, Benjamin, Carter, Caden and Melanie; bonus daughters, Robyn Tucker and Kim Shields;  two brothers, Ralph Pierce and Sammy Pierce; five sisters, Sarah Adkins, Anna Sours (Raleigh), Jewell Adkins, Sue Moser (Clarence) and Linda Davis

Graveside services will be conducted 10:00 a.m. Sunday, March 10, 2024 at Hillcrest Burial Park by Dennis Tucker.

The family will receive friends at the residence.
