Sandy Level……Eldgert Merrill Doss, age 80 of Sandy Level died Wednesday, April 6, 2022 at his residence.

Born August 8, 1941 in Pittsylvania County, he was a son of the late James William Doss and Ida Louise Owen Doss.  He was predeceased by his wife, Mary Mozelle Doss; one son, Steve Doss; one brother, James Doss, Jr.; and two sisters Mary King, and Georgia Walker.  He was a member of Sandy Level Baptist Church and a farmer.  Mr. Doss was a Charter Member and Hall of Fame Member of Cool Branch Rescue Squad.  He was also a former EMT with the Gretna Rescue Squad and received numerous awards over the years for his dedication as an EMT.  He enjoyed gardening.

He is survived by one granddaughter, Krystal Doss; three brothers, Jimmie Doss of Sandy Level, Bobby Doss of Sandy Level, and Carlton Doss of Roanoke; two sisters, Ann Doss of Sandy Level, and Nell Doss and husband, Rev. Charles DeHart of Christiansburg; one great-grandson, Nykel Claybrooks; and a special caregiver, Lorie Martin.

Graveside services will be conducted 2:00 p.m. Saturday, April 9, 2022 at Liberty Memorial Cemetery by Rev. R.G. Rowland, Pastor Kendell Smith, and Rev. Charles DeHart.

The family will receive friends at the residence.
