Sandy Level……Merle Anderson Edwards, age 92 of Sandy Level died Tuesday, June 20, 2023 at her residence.

Born December 7, 1930 in Pittsylvania County, she was a daughter of the late Eugene Anderson and Evelene Mahan Anderson.  She was predeceased by her husband, Daniel Edsel Edwards, Sr.; one son, Daniel Edsel Edwards, Jr.; one brother, Verne Anderson; and one sister, Jean Anderson Jessup.  Mrs. Edwards was a charter and lifelong member of Penhook United Methodist Church where she was a pianist and choir member.  She worked in tobacco growing up and graduated from Climax High School.  Mrs. Edwards studied stenography and graduated from Smithdeal Massey Business College in Richmond.  She went on to work for Coleman B. Yeatts for seven and a half years and worked for Planters Bank in Chatham for fifteen years.

She is survived by one daughter, Constance "Connie" Edwards of Sandy Level; four nieces and one nephew.

Graveside services will be conducted 11:00 a.m. Thursday, June 22, 2023 at Liberty Memorial Cemetery by Rev. Betty Marshall
