Melissa Haley Wood

Pittsville............Melissa Haley Wood, age 83 of 8720 Climax Road, Pittsville died Tuesday, December 21, 2010 at Lynchburg General Hospital.
Born March 29, 1927 in Pittsylvania County she was a daughter of the late James Thomas Haley and Eva Holland Haley. She was predeceased by five brothers, Udell Haley, James Haley, Leonard Haley, Nelson Haley, and William Boyd Haley; three sisters, Pauline Swartz, Angile Baker, and Mildred Haley. Mrs. Wood was a graduate of Broswell High and was of the Baptist faith. She enjoyed crocheting and was a home maker.
She is survived by her husband of over 65 years, James Melvin Wood of the residence; four sons, James Edwin Wood and his wife, Faye of Pittsville, Linwood Dale Wood and his wife, Candace of Charlottesville, Howard Wayne Wood and his wife, Linda of Gretna, and Samuel Melvin Wood of Richmond; a daughter, Betty Jo Jakubos and her husband Mike of Richmond; one brother, Raymond D. Haley of Danville; one sister, Dorothy Swanson of Dry Fork; 11 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted 11:00 a.m. Friday, December 24, 2010 at Colbert-Moran Chapel by Larry Owen, Minister. Burial will follow in Carl O. Moran Memorial Garden.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Thursday, December 23, 2010 at Colbert-Moran Funeral Home and other times will be at the residence.
