Long Island…….Ella Maxine Thurman Mattox, age 75 of Long Island died Thursday, August 19, 2021 at Centra Bedford Memorial Hospital.

Born September 1, 1945 in Lynchburg, she was a daughter of the late Claude Arnold Thurman and Lorene Talbott Thurman.  She was predeceased by two brothers, Ronnie Thurman and Johnny Thurman; and one sister, Cathy Thurman.  Mrs. Mattox loved working with her flowers and cooking.

She is survived by her husband, Gene Mattox of the residence; two sons, Marty Mattox of Long Island, and Jamie Mattox of Long Island; two daughters, Audrey Mattox of Long Island, and Kimberly Mattox of Long Island; two brothers, Kenny Thurman of Hurt, and Claude "Buttercup" Thurman of Altavista; six grandchildren, and numerous great-grandchildren.

Graveside services will be conducted 11:00 a.m. Monday, August 23, 2021 at Altavista Memorial Park by Rev. Jim Critchley.
