Obituary

Marynell Davis Teets lived a long and distinguished life marked by faith, enterprise, and an abiding devotion to family passed away at the age of 94 on Sunday, September 27, 2026. Born on May 16, 1932, in Lupton City, Tennessee, to Carlos Davis and Bertha Hunter Davis, Marynell’s descended from families whose roots reached back to the 1800s in the Choestoe and Arkaquah communities of Blairsville, Georgia. That rich Appalachian heritage remained a treasured part of her identity throughout her life.

Marynell moved to Akron, Ohio, in the 1940s and pursued her education at Young Harris College and Kent State University. Possessed of uncommon determination, intelligence, and a natural gift for leadership, she built a distinguished 40-year career in real estate. As a broker, trainer, educator, and mentor, she guided generations of professionals and earned the lasting admiration of those who had the privilege of working with her.

In 1998, Marynell made her home in Hayesville, North Carolina. There, she owned and operated Tusquittee Campground for more than five years before becoming a part-owner of Mountain Creek Antiques. She remained active in the business for nine years and retired at the remarkable age of 89. Her eye for antiques, love of decorating, and talent for creating beautiful and welcoming surroundings reflected the elegance and creativity with which she approached life. Above every accomplishment stood Marynell’s devotion to her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Her faith was not simply something she professed, but something she lived. She loved reading the Bible, sharing the Gospel, and encouraging others in their faith. Through her witness and example, she led many souls to Christ and leaves behind a spiritual legacy of immeasurable worth.

Marynell was preceded in death by her husband, Ray Teets; her parents, Carlos and Bertha Hunter Davis; her sister, Vivian Slagle; her daughter, Sheila Freeman; and her son, Bucky Puett.

She is survived by her daughter, Sherry Busteed of Blairsville, Georgia; her son, Mark Teets of Penhook, Virginia; 13 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and four step-granddaughters. She is also lovingly remembered by her nieces, Suzy Slagle and Sandi Dalessandro, and her nephew, John Mark Slagle.

Marynell’s was a life of rare substance—nearly a century shaped by enduring faith, professional distinction, creative vision, and steadfast love. She met every season with purpose and grace, leaving an indelible impression upon her family, her profession, her community, and the countless lives. Though her presence will be deeply missed, the beauty of her example and the strength of her faith will remain a lasting inheritance to all who knew and loved her.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Saturday, October 3, 2026 in the chapel of Ivie Funeral Home, Hayesville with the Reverend Curtis Ledford officiating and music provided by Luann Bryans. Interment will be in the Shooting Creek Memorial Gardens.
