Gretna……Mary Ellen Towler Barbour, age 88 of Gretna died Friday, November 19, 2021 peacefully at her residence.  She is now walking and talking with Jesus.

Born June 7, 1933 in Pittsylvania County, she was a daughter of the late Winbern Towler and Annie Owen Towler.  She was predeceased by her husband, Morris "Whitey" Barbour; five brothers, Edgar Towler, Bernice Towler, Wilford Towler, James Towler, and Jack Towler; and six sisters, Gladys Hancock, Helen Towler, Sallie Towler, Frances Towler, Cora Brumfield and Eunice Murphy.  Mrs. Barbour was a member of Mountain View Christian Church where she served as pianist and secretary and she was a home maker.  She was a member of Annie Eliza Johns UDC Chapter 164 and a member of Thomas L. Rosser Order of Confederate Rose.

She is survived by one son, Ronnie Barbour of Gretna; one daughter, Diane Barbour of Danville; one sister, Charlotte Scruggs of Gretna; granddaughter, Beth Senseney and her children, Rock, Brewer & Brody; numerous nieces and nephews; and special friends, Christina Gibson and Christian Gibson.

Graveside services will be conducted 2:00 p.m. Sunday, November 21, 2021 at Gretna Burial Park by Ted Clifton, Minister and Rev. Curtis English.

The family will receive at the residence.
