Chatham...........Mary Alice Schwitzerlett Haley, age 84 of Chatham, formerly of Gretna died Friday, March 15, 2013 at Chatham Health and Rehab.
Born September 28, 1928 in Pittsylvania County she was a daughter of the late Samuel Burton Schwitzerlett and Myrtle Irby Schwitzerlett. She was predeceased by her husband, Monsie Edward Haley; a son, Michael Ray Haley; and two sisters, Ester Pickeral, and Minnie Frazier. Mrs. Haley was a member of Piney Fork Baptist Church and was a former employee of Hunt Oil and Tire Company. She enjoyed helping other people.
She is survived by one daughter, Martha Montgomery and her husband, Mike of Gretna; three brothers, Oscar Schwitzerlett and his wife, Eliza of Beaver, WV, Walter Schwitzerlett and his wife, Nancy of Rosedale, and Richard Schwitzerlett and his wife, Christine of Gretna; two sisters, Dorothy Jacobs and her husband Haywood of Gretna, and Dolly Pettry and her husband, Joey of Rustburg; two brothers-in-law, Bill Frazier, and Charlie Pickeral; 5 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great-grandchild; and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted 11:00 A.M. Tuesday, March 19, 2013 at Piney Fork Baptist Church by Rev. R.G. Rowland and Rev. Ernie Roebuck. Burial will follow in Gretna Burial Park.
The family will receive friends at the residence of her daughter and son-in-law, Martha and Mike Montgomery, 696 Ray Mill Road, Gretna.
The family would like to thank the entire staff at Chatham Health and Rehab for their excellent care and the love they showed to Mary Alice while she was a resident there.
