Gretna……...Mary Giles Rowland, age 85 of Gretna died Saturday, July 30, 2022 at Centra Gretna Medical Center.

Born September 1, 1936 in Pittsylvania County, she was a daughter of the late Walter Benny Giles and Eva Newby Giles.  She was predeceased by her husband, Carl Owen "Joe" Rowland, Sr.; and one daughter-in-law, Pamela F. Rowland.  Mrs. Rowland was a retired school teacher with Pittsylvania County Schools; and a member of Piney Grove Baptist Church where she was a Sunday School Teacher, Choir Member, and part of a prayer group that met every Monday.  She loved her flowers, working puzzles, reading, and traveling.

She is survived by one son, Owen Rowland of Gretna; two daughters, Rose Rowland of Hurt and Bonita Roberts and husband, Tom of Concord; one brother, Joe Giles and wife, Marlene of Altavista; two sisters, Myrtle Price of Altavista and Wendy Bruce of Hurt; two grandchildren, Brandie N. Worsham and husband, Kevin and Colena Roberts; and two great-grandchildren, Kristen and Darrien.

Funeral services will be conducted 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, August 2, 2022 at Piney Grove Baptist Church by Pastor Matthew Speck and Rev. Joseph Giles.  Burial will follow in the Rowland Family Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:00 p.m. Monday, August 1, 2022 at Colbert-Moran Funeral Home and other times will be at the residence.
