Gretna……….Mary Agnes Hoar Rose, age 88 of Gretna died Thursday, December 26, 2024 at Autumn Care of Altavista.

Born June 25, 1936 in Maryland, she was a daughter of the late Everett Hoar and Helen Cowden Hoar.  She was predeceased by her husband, Robert "Coon Hunter" Rose; and three daughters, Melissa Banister, Margaret Arrowwood and Katherine Gay Jewell.  Mrs. Rose was a member of Altavista Tabernacle.  She had a great sense of humor; and loved flowers, gardening, life and people.

She is survived by four sons, Melvin Hoar and wife, Marcy of Florida, William Jewell of Spotsylvania, Willie Jewell of Spotsylvania and Woodrow Jewell of Madison Heights; 12 grandchildren, Melvin Hoar, Jr., Timothy Hoar, Brenda Hoar, Robert Rose, Jr., Mary Elkins, Rebecca Keith, Crystal Lumpkin, Jessica Byies, Tiffany Little, Jonathan Bannister, Amy Marshall and Beth Marshall; and 16 great-grandchildren.

Memorial services will be conducted 11:00 a.m. Saturday, January 25, 2025 at Altavista Baptist Tabernacle by Pastor W.L. Pillow.
