Gretna……….Mary Jane Chappell Mayhew, age 81 of Gretna died Thursday, November 18, 2021 at Centra Lynchburg General Hospital.

Born August 4, 1940 in Indianapolis, Indiana, she was a daughter of the late Dallas Sanders Chappell and Claribell Badger Chappell.  Mrs. Mayhew was predeceased by a grandson, Jason Knowles; and several brothers and sisters.  She was a member of Straightstone Baptist Church and she was a former nurses aide at Gretna Health and Rehab Center.

She is survived by her husband, Clyde Roosevelt Mayhew of the residence; six sons, Bruce Mayhew and wife, Zoe of Gretna, Tim Knowles and wife, Jackie of Gretna, Anthony Knowles of Mount Airy, NC, Ken Knowles of Newport News, Ron Knowles of Yorktown, and Chris Mayhew of New Mexico; two daughters, Cindy Marrs of New Mexico, and Shari Mayhew of New Mexico; six grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 2 to 4:00 p.m. Saturday, November 20, 2021 at Colbert-Moran Funeral Home.
