Chatham….......On July 9, 2014, God called our dear mother, Mary Elizabeth (Betty) Ellington Bowen home.
Mrs. Bowen, age 86 of 4037 Climax Road, Chatham was born November 11, 1927 in Amelia County. She was a daughter of the late Thomas Curry Ellington and Annie Belle Taylor Ellington. Mrs. Bowen was predeceased by her husband of 69 years, Harold Miller Bowen. She was a devoted wife and mother and enjoyed spending time with all her family. She was a member of New Bethel Church of the Brethren and was a homemaker. Mrs. Bowen also enjoyed reading her bible, gardening, yard work, and watching wildlife on the farm from her porch.
She is survived by three daughters, Gladys J. Bowen of Blairs, Lois B. Shelton and husband, Wayne of Chatham, and Patricia B. Boles and husband, Mark of Chatham; a sister, Doris Alease Henshaw and husband, Tommy of Mechanicsville; four grandchildren, Ashley W. Shelton, Jason E. Shelton and wife, Lindsay, Beth A. Boles, and Amy L. Boles; four great-grandchildren, Caleb W. Shelton, Caiden E. Shelton, Noelle K. Shelton, and Harper G. Shelton; a nephew, Tom Henshaw, Jr. of Mechanicsville; and 1 granddog, Mandy.
Funeral services will be conducted 11:00 A.M. Saturday, July 12, 2014 at Colbert-Moran Chapel by Rev. Leo Johnson. Burial will follow at Highland Burial Park in Danville.
The family will receive friends at the residence.
