Marilyn Adkins Cook, age 70 of Hurt passed away peacefully on Wednesday, March 4, 2026.

Born November 30, 1955 in Pittsylvania County, she was the beloved daughter of the late Richard Adkins and her loving mother, Virginia Gibson Adkins of Chatham.  She was preceded in death by her brother, Harvey Adkins; and sister, Cindy Logan.

Marilyn was married to the love of her life, Elwood Cook, Jr. for 18 wonderful years. Their marriage was a true testament to devotion, partnership, and enduring love.

A faithful woman of God, Marilyn was a dedicated member of Chatham Pentecostal Holiness Church and also attended Cornerstone Church of Christ. Her faith was a guiding light in her life, and she found great joy and comfort in worship and fellowship.

Outside of church and spending cherished time with her family, Marilyn had a vibrant spirit and many passions. She loved working with flowers and found peace and happiness in gardening. She faithfully attended water aerobics at the YMCA, enjoyed riding motorcycles, and treasured her regular breakfast gatherings with her dear friends at Dairy Queen.

In addition to her mother, Marilyn is survived by her husband, Elwood Cook, Jr. of the residence; and her loving brother, Ricky Adkins of Chatham.

She also leaves behind a large and loving family who will forever cherish her memory: her daughters, Julie Howell and husband, Wade of Lynch Station, Lori Bell and husband, Richard of Chatham and Tracey Critchley of Gretna; her sons, Louis Bryant,, Jr. and wife, Megan of Chatham and Howie Reedy and wife, Gwen of South Carolina; 16 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren; and her best friend, Sue Simpson.

Marilyn's life was defined by her faith, her love for her family, and the simple joys that brought her happiness. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.

Funeral services will be conducted 11:00 a.m. Saturday, March 7, 2026 at Colbert-Moran Chapel officiated by Bob Paddock, Minister and Rev. Jim Critchley.  Burial will follow in the Cook Family Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Friday, March 6, 2026 at Colbert-Moran Funeral Home and other times will be at the residence.
