Gretna……Ellen Marie Harris Payne, age 76 of Gretna, died Saturday, November 9, 2019 at Autumn Care Nursing and Rehab.

Born February 9, 1943 in Roanoke, she was a daughter of the late George Lewis Harris and Mabel Tucker Harris. She was also predeceased by a brother, Thomas Harris. Mrs. Payne was a member at Midway Baptist Church and a former employee at Pannell Knitting. She loved to cook and clean; and enjoyed her flowers and gardening.

She is survived by her husband, James Edward "Ed" Payne of the residence; one daughter, Janice Neal and husband, Herb of Gretna; one son, Charles Payne and wife, Tracie of Halifax; one brother, George S. Harris and wife, JoAnn of Gretna; three sisters, Alice Rigney of Chatham, Shirley Paggans of Hurt and Alma Burton of Roanoke; three grandchildren, Crystal Waller and husband, Chris, Candy Payne and Cody Roark; and two great-grandchildren, Kristen Waller and Carly Waller.

Graveside services will be conducted 11:00 A.M. Monday, November 11, 2019 at Midway Baptist Church Cemetery by Rev. Lynn Marstin.

The family will receive friends at her granddaughter's residence, Crystal and Chris Waller, 5420 Shula Drive, Hurt.
