Gretna……….Margie Ree Ruth Shelton, age 86 of Washington Street, Gretna died Friday, January 20, 2012 at Lynchburg General Hospital.
Born November 28, 1925 in Gretna, Virginia, she was a daughter of the late Claude Swanson Shelton and Ruth Haley Shelton. She was a retired employee of the Pittsylvania County Commissioner of Revenue. Margie was a lifelong member of the First Baptist Church of Gretna. She was also a charter member of Gretna Eastern Star Chapter #118 where she served in many positions, including Worthy Matron.
She is survived by two brothers, Swanson Haley Shelton and his wife Linda of Danville, and Claude Samuel Shelton and his wife, Gloria of Gretna; three sisters, Patsy S. Cundiff and Dolly S. Clingempeel both of Lynchburg, and Kittie Frances Shelton of Richmond; and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted 11:00 A.M. Monday, January 23, 2012 at the First Baptist Church of Gretna by Rev. Jonathan Hilliard. Burial will follow in Gretna Burial Park.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 P.M. Sunday, January 22, 2012 at Colbert-Moran Funeral Home and other times will be at the residence of her brother and sister-in-law, Sammy and Gloria Shelton, 203 W. Watts Street, Gretna.
The family suggests that memorials be made to the First Baptist Church of Gretna Building Fund, P.O. Box 339, Gretna, VA 24557. They would like to express their appreciation for the kindness of the staff at Gretna Health & Rehab Center and Lynchburg General Hospital.
