Gretna…….Margaret Shelton Rowland, age 101 of Gretna passed away Sunday, September 28, 2025 at Gretna Health and Rehab Center.

Born May 5, 1924 in Pittsylvania County, she was a daughter of the late Zebedee Shelton and Maude Taylor Shelton. She was predeceased by her husband, Earl Owen Rowland; five brothers, Acie Shelton, Marvin Shelton, Ollie Shelton, Oscar Shelton, and Edrie "Pete" Shelton; and three sisters, Eliza Merricks, Myrtle Mayhew and Louise Witcher.  Mrs. Rowland was the oldest living member of the First Baptist Church of Gretna where she was a member of Care and Share.  After her retirement from Galveston Mills she worked for Peoples Mutual Telephone Company.  Mrs. Rowland was also a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and the Weed and Weep Garden Club.

She is survived by one brother, Ned Shelton of Gretna; one sister, Nora Violet Osborne of Chatham; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be conducted 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, September 30, 2025 at the First Baptist Church of Gretna by Rev. Bob Ballance and Rev. R.G. Rowland.  Burial will follow in Gretna Burial Park.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, September 30, 2025 at the First Baptist Church of Gretna.
