Margaret Florence LaFontaine, age 91 of Smithville, NY passed away peacefully surrounded by her family and loved ones on Thursday, September 1, 2016 at the residence of her daughter Deborah in Gretna, VA.
Born December 24, 1924 in Ellisburg, New York she was a daughter of the late Norva A. Collins and Arlie Ranney Collins. Mrs. LaFontaine was also predeceased by her husband, John Noel LaFontaine; two sisters, Dorothy Blodgett and Helen Dunaway; and one brother, Robert Collins. Mrs. LaFontaine worked as a registered nurse at Mercy Hospital. She was also a cheese maker, a cake maker and a seamstress. She was a member of Smithville Baptist Church in Smithville, NY; she was also a member of the Smithville Fire Department, the Red Hat Society, the Smithville Grange and the Ladies Aide Group. Mrs. LaFontaine enjoyed being outdoors.
She is survived by one son, Michael John LaFontaine and girlfriend, Terry Parsons of TN; four daughters, Carol Anne Horning and husband, Richard of TX, Mary Margaret Cornell and husband, Gary of NY, Deborah Maureen Skogen and husband, John of Gretna, VA and Christine Arlie LaFontaine of NY; one sister, Francie Green of Smithville, NY; eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
