Gretna…..Maggie Jones Mayhew, age 82 of 10789 East Gretna Road, Gretna died Friday, December 21, 2012 at Virginia Baptist Hospital.
Born April 27, 1930 in Halifax County she was a daughter of the late Henry Thomas Jones and Chaney Shelton Jones. Mrs. Mayhew was predeceased by her husband, David Thomas (Tom) Mayhew; three brothers, Clarence Jones, Willie Jones, and Lacy Jones; and two sisters, Lucy Waller, and Delora Clay. Mrs. Mayhew was a member of Mulberry Baptist Church where she was the treasurer for 32 years, and a member of the choir for 53 years. She was a co-owner of Mayhew's Grocery; and enjoyed cooking, and spending time with her family.
She is survived by two sons, Donald Ray Mayhew of Gretna, and Randy Mayhew of Gretna; two sisters, Eva Betterton of Gretna, and Addie Mae Clay of Altavista; three grandchildren, Jeremy Davis, Ashley Mayhew, and Amanda Parks; and one great-grandchild, Ady Davis.
Funeral services will be conducted 4:00 p.m. Sunday, December 23, 2012 at Mulberry Baptist Church by Dr. Jerry P. Jordan. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the residence.
