Gretna……….Madie Adkins Cook, age 94 of Gretna went to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Monday, September 23, 2024.

Born June 13, 1930 in Pittsylvania County, she was a daughter of the late George Washington Daniel and Susie Ann Hutcherson Daniel.  She was predeceased by her first husband, Russell Adkins; her second husband, Elwood Cook, Sr; one son, Jerry Martin Adkins; two grandsons, Ronald Gene Creasy and David "Noody" Daniel; one brother, Sam Daniel; five sisters, Minnie Parker, Rosa Daniel, Addie Daniel, Gladys Daniel and Mary Daniel; and one son-in-law, Thomas Creasy.  Mrs. Cook retired from the Lane Company and was a member of Chatham Pentecostal Holiness Church.  She loved her church family; and enjoyed going to church, gardening, and cooking Sunday meals for her family.

She is survived by one son, Joe Adkins of Hurt; four daughters, Betty Creasy and husband, Walter of Gretna, Patsy Creasy of Gretna, Dorothy Cook and husband, Reggie of Gretna and Kathy Daniel and Eddie Dean Brumfield of Gretna; one sister, Georgia Moore of  Chatham; 10 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and 22 great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be conducted 2:00 p.m. Thursday, September 26, 2024 at Chatham Pentecostal Holiness Church by Pastor Obdulio Berrios and Rev. Jason Andrews.  Burial will follow in the Adkins Family Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, September 25, 2024 at Colbert-Moran Funeral Home and other times will be at the residence.

Mrs. Cook was a Partner in Hope with St. Jude Children's Research Hospital and the family suggests memorial contributions be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105 or go to their website, stjude.org.

The family would like to thank Commonwealth Hospice and Public Partnerships for their love and care; and her caregiver, Lisa Cook, who took special care of her for 15 years.
