Madeline Elizabeth Dalton Bennett, 90, of Motley was born May 22, 1933 and passed away June 16, 2023 after declining health and a long battle with dementia.  She was the wife of James Curtis Bennett for 70 years, and to state that they were devoted to one another would be an understatement.

Madeline grew up in the Renan community, the youngest child of George Ellis Dalton Sr. and Julia Elma Rowland Dalton.  She was a member of Motley Baptist Church where she served by singing in the choir for many years, as well as contributing food and flower arrangements for the church family and community.  She was a dedicated wife and mother who enjoyed playing the piano, gardening, sewing, and cooking for her family.  While our hearts are broken, we are comforted by our knowledge that she no longer suffers and is at peace with the Lord.

In addition to her husband, Madeline is survived by three daughters, Sharon Peek (Jim) of Washington, NC, Janet Myers (Danny) of Asheboro, NC and Carol Dalton (Randy) of Gretna; four grandchildren, Sarah Elizabeth Peek (Greenville, NC), Allison Bennett Peek (Morehead City, NC), Daniel Craig Myers, (Winston Salem, NC) and Jeremy David Myers, (Asheboro, NC); and two nieces, Wanda Reynolds Long of Lynchburg and Jackie Dalton Meeks of Forest.

She was preceded in death by two brothers, George Ellis (Johnny) Dalton, Jr. and Kenneth Burton (Toby) Dalton, a sister Julia Louise Dalton Reynolds, and a niece Patricia Reynolds Walker.

Graveside services will be conducted 2:00 p.m. Sunday, June 25, 2023 at Carl O. Moran Memorial Garden by Pastor Mitch Etheridge.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial gifts be made to Motley Baptist Church, 152 Perdue Drive, Hurt VA 24563, or the charity of one's choice.
