Gretna……Lyle David Shelton, age 83 of Gretna died Tuesday, July 6, 2021 at his residence.

Born July 15, 1937 in Pittsylvania County, he was a son of the late Norman Shelton and Lora Yeatts Shelton.  He was predeceased by his first wife, Patsy Bayliss Shelton; a step-son, Phil Crews; two brothers, James Shelton, and Frank Shelton; three sisters, Thelma Irby, Gladys Eanes, and Ruby Shelton; and three infant brothers, Calvin Shelton, Eddie Shelton, and Lowell Shelton.  Lyle was a member and former Deacon of Greenfield Baptist Church and an Army Veteran. He worked with English Construction for many years, was a retired supervisor with Mt. Airy VDOT, and currently worked with the Farm Service Agency.  He was a former member of the Gretna Rescue Squad, a member and Post Commander of American Legion Post 232, and a Mason and member of Anderson Lodge 258 A.F & A.M.  He enjoyed gardening, doing yard work, riding his tractor, playing on the computer, and playing the guitar and banjo.

He is survived by his wife, Sue Milam Shelton of the residence; one son, Dr. Stuart Shelton and wife, Penny; two daughters, Debra Orrock and husband, Bobby, and Donna Shelton; two step-daughters, Cheryl Crews, and Tammy Crews; one sister, Lelia Brumfield; two grandchildren, Kelli Delia and husband, Chad, and Graham Shelton and fiancée, Ashlee Lanier; and his beloved dog, Tebow.

Funeral services will be conducted 11:00 a.m. Thursday, July 8, 2021 at Greenfield Baptist Church by Rev. R.G. Rowland and Rev. David Turbyfill.  Burial with Military Honors by American Legion Altavista Post 36 and Gretna Post 232 and Masonic Rites by Anderson Lodge 258 A.F. & A.M. will follow in the church cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, July 7, 2021 at Colbert-Moran Funeral Home and other times will be at the residence.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorials be made to Greenfield Baptist Church, P.O. Box 875 Gretna, VA 24557.
