Gretna……….Luther Daniel "Danny" Farmer, Jr., age 80 of Gretna died Sunday, January 5, 2025 at Centra Lynchburg General Hospital.

Born May 30, 1944 in Pittsylvania County, he was a son of the late Luther Daniel Farmer, Sr. and Martha Virginia Shumate Farmer.  He was predeceased by one grandson, Jacob Doss; two brothers, Sammy Farmer and Jerry Famer; and six sisters, Geneva Vaughan, Sylvia Porter, Mozelle Bruce, Margaret Dalton, Dora Pickeral and Alice Hedrick.  Mr. Farmer was a U.S. Army Veteran and retired from Ross Laboratories.  He was devoted to his family; and enjoyed playing music, especially the bass guitar which he played for many years.

He is survived by his wife, Barbara Cannon Farmer of the residence; one daughter, Teresa Doss and husband, Philip of Hurt; two sons, Danny Farmer of Hurt and Jeremy Farmer and wife, Gina of California; six grandchildren, Jody Rowland and fiancée, Hannah Hunter, Lauren D. Farmer, Rachel Marie Farmer, Melissa Lee Farmer, Sarah Rae Farmer, and Jade Jacoba Farmer; five great-grandchildren, Hunter, Olivia, Sydney, Scarlett and Addy; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be conducted 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, January 8, 2025 at Colbert-Moran Chapel by Pastor John Sines, Jr.  Burial with Military Honors by American Legion Altavista Post 36 and Gretna Post 232 will follow in Motley Community Church Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 7:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday, January 7, 2025 at Colbert-Moran Funeral Home and other times will be at the residence.
