Hurt…..Lula Mae Hendricks Clay, age 76 of 1193 Spring Road, Hurt died Tuesday, July 23, 2013 at Virginia Baptist Hospital.
Born May 21, 1937 in Pittsylvania County she was a daughter of the late John Henry Hendricks and Mary Dove Hendricks. She was predeceased by her husband, Hampton Owen Clay; a granddaughter, Jennifer Eades; seven brothers; and five sisters. Mrs. Clay was a member of Spring Road Baptist Church and was a retired seamstress. She was a devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and care giver to many. She loved gardening, cooking, and doing for others.
She is survived by one son, Owen Clay of Dry Fork; five daughters, Gerri Snead and husband, James of TN, Jackie Eades and husband, Dennis of Hurt, Vickie Shelton and husband, Timmy of Gretna, Cheryl Mason and husband, David of Evington, and Carolyn Shelton of Gretna; three sisters, Sue Martin and husband, Curtis of Gretna, Corrine Oakes and husband, Andrew of Hurt, and her beloved sister, Barbara Hendricks of Gretna; 11 grandchildren, Michelle Charlton and husband, Jonathan, Susan Snead, Robbie Eades, Jason Shelton and wife, Tamika, Chris Shelton, Katlin Aultice, Kimberly Aultice, Mathew Aultice, Barry Mason, Angela Shelton, and Aaron Shelton; four great-grandchildren, Clay Snead, Makayla Shelton, Jacob Shelton, and Cameron Nelms; special family, Jeff Shelton, and Steve Aultice; and many nieces and nephews that she dearly loved.
Funeral services will be conducted 2:00 P.M. Thursday, July 25, 2013 at Colbert-Moran Chapel by Rev. Brian Faison and Ronnie Simpson. Burial will follow in Gretna Burial Park.
The family will receive friends following the service at the residence.
