Long Island……..Lucy Vernell Mayhew Davis, age 95 of Long Island died Friday, May 22, 2015 at Virginia Baptist Hospital in Lynchburg.
Born October 5, 1919 in Pittsylvania County she was a daughter of the late Morris Monroe Mayhew and Nellie Eanes Mayhew. She was predeceased by her husband, Aubrey C. Davis; a daughter, Vernell Kidd; four brothers, Anderson Mayhew, Burton Mayhew, Alfred Mayhew and Reuben Mayhew; and three sisters, Janie Mayhew, Ida Worsham and Evelyne Worsham. Mrs. Davis was a member of Straightstone Baptist Church and was a home maker. She enjoyed working with the young people at the church, gardening and cooking.
She is survived by two sons, Morris Davis, Sr. and his wife, Patricia of Benson, NC and Aubrey Davis and his wife, Robin of Hurt; two brothers, Clyde Mayhew and his wife, Jane of Gretna and Carlton Mayhew and his wife, Debbie of Chatham; 8 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; a special brother-in-law, Jimmy Davis; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted 2:00 p.m. Sunday, May 24, 2015 at Straightstone Baptist Church by Pastor David Bell. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service from 1 to 2:00 p.m. Sunday, May 24, 2015 at Straightstone Baptist Church.
