Obituary

Gretna……….Louise Shelton Witcher, age 90 of Gretna died Monday, May 1, 2017 at her residence.
Born May 14, 1926 in Pittsylvania County she was a daughter of the late Zebedee Shelton and Maude Taylor Shelton. She was predeceased by five brothers, Acie Shelton, Marvin Shelton, Ollie Shelton, Oscar Shelton and Edrie "Pete" Shelton; and two sisters, Eliza Merricks and Myrtle Mayhew. Mrs. Witcher was a member of Greenbay Christian Church where she served in many capacities. "Feeding the flock" with homemade yeast rolls was one of her specialties. She was a member of the Climax Ruritan Club where she was known as the "apple pie lady." She dried many bushels of apples and made thousands of fried apple pies which she graciously shared with friends and strangers. She was named Ruritan of the Year in 1995. Preparing food for her neighbors, shut-ins, and many who served the community gave her much pleasure.
She is survived by her husband of over 72 years, William Henry "W.H." Witcher, Sr. of the residence; one son, Billy Witcher and wife, Nancy of Lenoir, NC; one daughter, Gail Bosiger and husband, John of Halifax; one brother, Luther "Ned" Shelton and wife, Shirley of Gretna; two sisters, Margaret Rowland of Gretna and Nora Violet Osborne and husband, Pete of Chatham; five grandchildren, Wes Bosiger, Scott Bosiger and wife, Alison, Melissa Countryman and husband, Taylor, Erin Penley and husband, Todd, and Jenna Lahiff and husband, Matt; and ten great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted 3:00 p.m. Thursday, May 4, 2017 at Colbert-Moran Chapel by Jim Headen, Minister and Chaplain Troy Mays. Burial will follow in Gretna Burial Park.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:00 p.m., Wednesday, May 3, 2017 at Colbert-Moran Funeral Home and other times will be at the residence.
The family suggests memorial contributions be made to your local Alzheimer's Association or to the charity of your choice.
